General Summary:

 

Maintain a multi-server Microsoft system environment and provide hardware and software helpdesk support for a 50 user network infrastructure.  The primary site is in King George, Virginia (Dahlgren) and a secondary (non-server) site is in Glen Allen, Virginia (Richmond).  Maintain peripheral equipment usage and a VOIP telephone system.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1. Design and maintain server system and daily, weekly and monthly backup process for multi-server, multi-project system.

2. Provide computer/network support (helpdesk) relating to software and hardware problems reported by users.

3. Maintain knowledge of operating system and application software being used to provide high levels of support to users.

4. Monitor and evaluate efficiency of software/hardware usage, providing items to be covered in training of users, making them more efficient.

5. Install new software applications or hardware on the LAN.

6. Add and maintain users on the network; assigning application access, ensuring security, and maintaining their configurations are within standards.

7. Track, assign, purchase, and install workstations and printers on the LAN.

8. Gather bid prices on equipment and supplies as needed.

9. Provide written document on a monthly basis which defines current status and upcoming needs of network which would require purchase of additional hardware or software.

10. Monitor and report licenses on applications to ensure compliance on a monthly basis.

11. Maintain up-to-date Sentel Dahlgren/Richmond equipment inventory and software licenses inventory.

12. Maintain telephone system.

13. Maintain, upgrade, & monitor firebox, router, T1 line and network switches; system software managers and hardware.

14. Maintain server side antivirus software.

15. Maintain FTP server, Sentel Dahlgren web server and VPN tunnels.

16. Interface with corporate IT as required.

17. Carry out other such duties as may be assigned or requested.

18. Other duties that may be assigned to meet company and departmental goals

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Demonstrated system maintenance experience in a Microsoft-based, multi-server, multi-user environment.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

 
  1. A+ certification or equivalent and hands on experience.
  2. College coursework or BS/BA in information technology or other related degree is a plus.  Combination of experience and education is acceptable; however, experience must be relevant to the position in order to support task requirements.
  3. Minimum of 4 - 6 years of experience in a fast-paced environment.
  4. Must have prior experience and competency with multi-user, Microsoft networked systems.
  5. Strong focus on accuracy, strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  7. Excellent time and resource management skills, including status reporting skills.

Certificate, Licenses, Registration, Clearance:

 

Preferred:  MCP or MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer)
Must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance

Computer Skills:

 

Understanding of MS Outlook Client and Exchange Server, experience with Windows 2003/2008 and XP/Vista/Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit) operating system, experience with MS Office 2007/2010, experience with data servers and RAID disk sets, understanding of TCP/IP network protocol, experience with switched networks, routers and fireboxes.  Ability to assist as Information Systems Security Manager is a plus.
